Daddy's Drama: Day by Day

My daily experience being a Dad

Day 195: The Scoop

I hope that I haven’t over excited you and set you up for a let down….

I mentioned in Wednesday’s post that I had something to tell you that had to wait… And now the moment is here 🙂

Tuesday night, Jackson slept from 7 to 7. Not only that, but I wasn’t in charge, so we can’t blame it on my lack of hearing 🙂 I didn’t want to say anything about it though until I was going to be in charge again, that way I am the one who suffers for “breaking the rules” 🙂

He did wake up the last two nights (mornings) around 2. But still, only waking up once is awesome too.

In other news, the weekend is finally here. Yay. We don’t have any major plans, which means lots of just hanging out with Jackson, which is always fun.

Day 194: Sneaky, Sneaky

I realize that my post yesterday was kind of vague and was pretty much just a big tease. And, while it’s partly true, in that I did have something to talk about that will have to wait until Friday’s post, mostly it was just my way of skirting around the “I don’t have anything to say but I’m posting anyway” post. I thought those posts were getting a little old, so I figured if I just said something without really saying something that would get around me just coming right out and saying that I didn’t have anything to say.

Are you confused yet? That’s ok if you are, I truly do have a dizzying intellect.

In other news, today Jackson did his

FIRST PULL UP: Ok, not really. But I was playing around with him before we put him in his bath, and just for fun I held him up to the shower curtain rod to see what he would do. Well, he grabbed hit firmly in both hands and pulled himself up. His form was actually perfect as far as pull ups go. He lifted his little chin right up over the bar and then got the biggest smile in his face.

Won’t be long and I really will be posting about his first pull up….

Day 193: It’ll Have To Wait

So, I only have one thing I wanted to talk about tonight, but I can’t. Amanda would be upset with me if I did. So I’ll have to wait until Friday night.

Rules :/

Day 192: Happy Birthday To Me

Today was my

FIRST BIRTHDAY SINCE BEING A DAD: It wasn’t really all that significant really. Being a Tuesday meant it was a work day. And planning to take a week off at Christmas meant I didn’t have any extra vacation time to spare, so I had to go to work. It may be the first time I’ve worked on my birthday in quite some time. In other respects, it wasn’t that much different than any other day as a dad. Except I had presents to open. Jackson helped, which was fun. Though he was much less interested in unwrapping the present as he was shoving the wrapping paper in his mouth 🙂 Either way though, he can sit on his own, and he can grab paper and rip it on his own, which means Christmas in a month should be a lot of fun 😀

Day 191: 3 To Triple, Twice 3 To Halve

I love numbers. So I like it even more when cool things happen with numbers without even having to try to make something cool happen.

We had Jackson’s 6 month check up today with the doctor. He was very pleased and said he he right on track, growth wise, with where a 6 month old should be. He said he is just as healthy as can be. He also pointed out that Jackson’s actions in the office (sitting up on the doctors table by himself and leaning over to grab and pull at the paper) were 7 month old behavior (specifically the leaning over and grabbing, which is something Jackson has gotten quite good at with his toys), so that was cool to hear. It was also really neat to see Jackson sitting there, raptly paying attention as Dr. Sean spoke and watching him and making eye contact and everything. I had myself a proud daddy moment for sure.

Ok, now the numbers. Oh boy!!!

Jackson is 15 pounds, 3 ounces. This means he only has 3 pounds to go before he will have tripled his birth weight. Lots of threes there, and three is twice as much as six (6 month check up).

Height wise, Jackson is 2 feet 2 inches tall. Amanda is 5 feet 4 inches tall. This means Jackson only has 6 inches to go (twice 3 again) before he will be half as tall as Amanda. HOLY MOLY!! That is quite the thought. Half as tall as his mommy. Wow!!! The guy is getting so big so fast 🙂

Day 190: It Might Be My Ears….

Amanda has started to really question the fact that Jackson always seems to sleep good for me on the weekend nights I take charge…

So we did a little experiment over the last 5 nights. I took three of them and she took two of them, alternating each night.

Sure enough, each night I was in charge he usually only woke up once. One night it was 1:30ish, one night a quarter to 12, and last night not until 3:30.

Her nights did not go as smoothly. He woke up more frequently.

Our conclusion….. I don’t hear him :/

Next weekend we are going to try turning up the volume on the monitor and seeing if that causes him to wake up more often for me.

Our predictions are that it will. Of course, my hope is that it won’t and that somehow Jackson just knows what nights I am in charge and decides to sleep well for me 🙂

Actually though, my real hope is that he would just start sleeping well period. Every night.

Day 189: Nothing much… Except

Not a lot to talk about tonight….

Except the headstand incident….

Jackson has decided it is now fun to roll over on his changing table. Usually this simply results in fun little wrestling match to keep him on his back while struggling to put a fresh diaper on. However, tonight he decided to start rolling around before the old diaper had finished coming off. Oh, and it was an extremely messy poopy diaper too. So as he is trying to roll over, I’m holding his legs up trying to keep them out of the mess. Jackson ended up getting himself turned over, me still holding his legs up…. So now he’s kind of on his chest, with a poopy butt sticking up in the air, but that wasn’t good enough for him… Oh no. He decided to continue to squirm and twist and ended up practically doing a headstand, while trying to grab hold of his diaper, all while his poopy butt his dangling around in the air as I still have a firm grip on his legs…

Where was Amanda in all this? Filling up his bath. I tried to call for her at first, but wasn’t loud enough for her to hear me over the running water. As I tried to get louder, Jackson’s continuous struggling and squirming, and his precarious situation was starting to cause me to laugh… Which of course robbed me of my volume… By the time I was able to take a breath and call loud enough for Amanda my eyes were starting to water from laughing (or maybe from the stench if poop wafting into my face). Fortunately she got in the room in time to help out before things got messy, but not before busting up herself 🙂

Man oh man, when I think about what could have happened……..

Day 188: Another Good Day

Yesterday was rough. Jackson is teething (or at least, we are now 99% sure he is, and if he isn’t then he’s in a lot of apparent pain for nothing), that on top of being in a different environment meant he wasn’t able to nap well. Not napping well combined with teething made for one pretty fussy baby for the majority of the time we spent at Amanda’s parents house for Thanksgiving. And it meant that we were only able to spend about 2 minutes saying hi to my family at my Grandma’s house before needing to get Jackson home to bed. It also took him quite a while to wind down and go to sleep.

But once he did, the boy crashed.

And crashed hard.

And today he continued his crashing with several very long naps. Fortunately, since we were just at home today, he was much, much happier during his awake times. We didn’t have quite as great a day as Wednesday, but it was still pretty great.

And I’ve still got two left 🙂

Day 186: Great Day!!

Today was a fantastic day. We just hung out at home all day, which was nice. Jackson napped really well, which was extra nice. And because he napped well, when he was awake he was happy and fun and playful, which was super nice.

All told, the three of us had an awesome day.

We also decided to try Jackson on potatoes so that he could have something “Thanksgivingy” to eat tomorrow.

I’ll let you decide how it went.

Oh, also, please excuse the mess in the background. We are cleaning out our office so we can move the computer back in there and out of our family area off the kitchen so that we can move our dining table into their and make the current dining area a play area for Jackson. Did you follow that? Either way, the point is we are cleaning out our office. And whenever Amanda and I clean out a room…. We have to make a huge mess first.

But back to the pictures…. I’m thinking we may have to wait for next year to see Jackson really enjoy the Thanksgiving feast 🙂
